Collecting and Using Your Personal Data

Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

While using our Service, we may ask you to provide:

  • Email address: used to deliver your report link and for support or refund requests.
  • Financial inputs: the numbers you enter (e.g. savings, debt, income) are used to calculate your score and generate your report. When you receive a report, we store these inputs with the report so we can deliver your report link and display your report when you open that link.
  • Report data: your FortunateFi Score, tier, and the generated report content are stored so we can deliver your report link by email and display your report when you open that link.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising or third-party sharing. Your financial inputs and report data are stored only to deliver and display your report and to fulfill the Service. Payment processing is handled by Stripe; transactional email (report delivery, support) is sent via Resend.

Usage Data

Usage Data may be collected automatically when you use the Service (e.g. IP address, browser type, pages visited). We may use this to operate and improve the Service. If analytics are enabled, we may use a service such as PostHog to understand product usage patterns. Analytics data is used only for improving the Service and is not used for advertising.

Tracking Technologies and Cookies

We may use Cookies and similar technologies to provide and improve the Service. Types we may use include:

  • Necessary / Essential Cookies: required to operate the Service (e.g. session or security-related).
  • Functionality Cookies: used to remember your preferences and improve your experience.
  • Analytics Cookies: if enabled, used to understand how the Service is used (e.g. via PostHog). You can disable analytics via our configuration where offered.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all Cookies or to indicate when a Cookie is being sent. Some parts of the Service may not function properly if you disable Cookies.

Use of Your Personal Data

We collect and use Personal Data only to operate the Service, fulfill purchases, communicate with you about your report or support requests, comply with legal obligations, and improve the Service.

The Company may use Personal Data for the following purposes:

  1. To provide and maintain our Service: generating your report, storing your inputs and report results so we can deliver your report link by email and display your report when you open it.
  2. To process your payment: payment processing is handled by Stripe; we receive only the information necessary to fulfill your purchase and deliver your report.
  3. To contact you: by email for report delivery, support, or refund requests. We do not use your email for marketing unless you opt in separately.
  4. To manage your requests: to respond to support inquiries, refund requests, or data deletion requests.
  5. To improve the Service: we may use Usage Data or analytics (if enabled) to operate and improve the Service.

The report link we send is unique and does not require an account. Anyone with access to that link may be able to view the report, so you are responsible for keeping the link secure.

Your Personal Financial Data

Your financial data is private by default. The financial figures, ratios, scores, and report content you generate through FortunateFi are stored solely to deliver your report and are not accessed, reviewed, sold, or shared by FortunateFi staff for any purpose — with the following single exception: if you contact us to request a correction, dispute, or support review of your data, a member of our team may access the minimum information required to resolve your request. We will never access your data for marketing, profiling, benchmarking against other users in identifiable form, or any purpose beyond delivering the service you requested.

AI Processing Disclosure

How your data is used with AI providers. To generate your personalised financial analysis and action plan, FortunateFi transmits your financial ratios and derived metrics (such as savings rate, debt-to-income ratio, and emergency fund coverage) to third-party AI services, currently OpenAI (openai.com) and Anthropic (anthropic.com). This transmission is necessary to produce the AI-written diagnostic content in your report. We do not transmit your name, email address, or raw dollar figures to these AI providers — only the derived ratios and score context needed to generate analysis. Both OpenAI and Anthropic process this data under their respective API data processing agreements. By using FortunateFi, you consent to this use of your derived financial data for report generation purposes.

Retention and Transfer of Your Personal Data

The Company will retain your Personal Data only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including delivering your report, allowing access to your report via the unique link, maintaining transaction and business records, resolving disputes, enforcing our agreements, and complying with legal obligations.

Your financial inputs and report data are retained to fulfill your purchase and to allow you to access your report when you open the link. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at support@fortunatefi.com or via our Contact section on the homepage. We will process deletion requests in accordance with our procedures and remove or anonymize your data where feasible.

Your data may be transferred to and maintained on systems operated by Service Providers (e.g. Stripe, Resend, Firebase) and may be processed in jurisdictions outside your residence. We take steps to ensure your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. The Company is based in Canada and the primary jurisdiction for data processing is Canada.

Security of Your Personal Data

We take reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your Personal Data against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Privacy Rights

Under applicable privacy laws, including Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you may request access to or deletion of your personal information.

You may submit a request by contacting us at support@fortunatefi.com. We will respond to reasonable requests within a commercially reasonable timeframe.
